CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW RESIDENCE AND DAY CENTRE IN FÀBRICA VELLA DE SALLENT

September del 2023

With a total built area of 5,400 m2, the project defines an architectural proposal that addresses the following issues, offering specific solutions for each:

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY

Both the configuration of the building and its installations ensure maximum autonomy and minimum energy consumption. As such, the building has been designed to have minimum energy requirements (natural lighting, passive solar cooling systems, minimization of thermal losses, etc.), as well as the use of renewable energies (geothermal and photovoltaic).

MINIMISING THE MAINTENANCE NEEDS OF THE BUILDING AND THE EXTERIOR SPACE

We have opted for the use of materials, finishes, systems, distributions, and formal solutions with low and easy maintenance, high durability, and suitability to their specific function, without compromising on the homeliness and quality of the finishes.

PRESERVATION OF PATRIMONIAL ELEMENTS

The façade of the old factory will be reinforced. The staircase inside the tower will be refurbished and the existing banister will be preserved. The damaged ironwork (steel beams and brick top slabs) of the terrace overlooking the river will be replaced, and new ironwork will be added to the two-story section.

Most of the elements that help mark the original path of the water that was used to generate the energy needed to run the factory, as well as the smoke evacuation systems, will be reinforced and/or restored.

GUARANTEED ACCESSIBILITY TO ALL AREAS

The project envisages that the entire building and its adjoining spaces will be wheelchair accessible. Efforts have also been made to ensure that both the internal work areas and the external areas linked to the activities of the residence will be wheelchair friendly as well.
